Transfer Spotify Local Files using Musicopy
Spotify can play local files stored on your device, but doesn't support streaming or syncing across devices. If you have music files on your desktop, you need to copy them to your phone to play them in Spotify.
Musicopy is the most convenient way to transfer music files from your desktop to your phone for Spotify:
- Magic connectivity: scan a QR code to connect.
- Automatic transcoding to fit more songs on your device.
- No accounts or subscriptions: just two apps.
1. Install both apps
2. Add your music
In the desktop app, add folders to your library.
Added folders will be scanned and their contents will be available for download in the mobile app.
Musicopy can automatically convert files to improve file size or compatibility, or transfer the original files. You can change this setting in the mobile app. More information
3. Change your download folder and format
On iOS
In the mobile app, change the download folder to On My iPhone → Spotify.
Spotify for iOS only supports MP3 files, so also change the download format in the mobile app:
- MP3 V0 for best quality and larger files
- MP3 V5 for smaller files and good quality
- Original if you already have MP3 files
On Android
Spotify for Android can find music files in various places, but Music is a good choice.
Spotify for Android supports both MP3 and Opus files, so choose a download format in the mobile app:
- Opus 128kbps for best quality and small files
- Opus 64kbps for very small files and good quality
- Original if you already have compatible files
4. Connect your phone
In the mobile app, scan the QR code shown in the desktop app to connect.
After clicking accept, Musicopy will create a direct end-to-end encrypted connection for fast and private transfers. Both devices can even be on different networks.
Next time, Musicopy will list recent connections to reconnect quickly.
5. Transfer your files
Choose files from your library and start the transfer.
Downloaded files will be saved to your chosen folder, mirroring your folder structure on desktop.
Next time, Musicopy will remember which files have already been transferred.
On Android, transfers continue in the background. On iOS, keep the app open until the transfer finishes.
6. Enable Local Files in Spotify
In Spotify, turn on Local audio files in Settings and privacy → Apps and devices → Other devices, or check out Spotify's official instructions.
